That’s all nominal seeping. I’m guessing it’s more than one year between top offs, which arguably isn’t worth repairing

Ok, here's a couple with the timing cover off, and one of the inside of the cover… what do you think, front crankshaft seal?

There is a light film of oil in the recesses on the inboard side of the intake cam... so I suppose it could be that seal leaking, and oil traveling with the belt and accumulating at the bottom... but it sure seems clean at the top for that to be the case?

I would take some time and try to clean as much of the oil/grime off and then see where it comes back. Currently it is in so many areas it is hard to identify where it is coming from.

The stuff at the RH axle looks like classic CV boot split and not oil.

Neil.

Thanks Neil. I’ll try cleaning it up, replacing the cover, and run it for a bit and see where it comes back from.

I tried feeling around on the boot for a split, but couldn’t find one. It’s on the inner tie rod end boot tie, exactly lined up with the CV boot... but I’ll take the wheel off and clean them up and see if I can find one.

Is engine degreaser ok to use inside the timing cover, or is there something else I should use?

Careful use is ok, but you need to keep it off the belt. If that is difficult, I use WD40 soaked onto a cloth.

Neil.

I’ll try that. I’m actually changing the belts this weekend, I was just hoping to figure out where the oil leak is coming from first to see which seals to order... I feel relatively confident about being able to do the crankshaft seal, but more nervous about possibly having to pull cam sprockets... :/

If it was an oil seal the gunk would be everywhere. I don't see anything.

I would put some gloves on and get my hands on the c.v boot.

I tried feeling around on the boot for a split, but couldn’t find one.
Going to take the wheel off and check again for boot splits, but if it was that, how would so much of it be getting inside the timing cover and on top of the lower timing guard?
