I was out of town this week, I finally found 1 junk yard with parts. None of the junkyards in my area have ANY Volvo parts. I called like 7 places while I was out of town and found one yard with one Volvo that had two parts. I got a new washer fluid cap and a hood release so I can take that stupid coat hanger out of my grill!
Cost me a grand $10.
So when I get a chance tonight or this weekend my car will have these two new parts on them.
After that...I may be tackling the PCV system. I wanted to push this off to later, but I think it’s goint to need to be done sooner rather than later. The oil should have another 2,000 miles on it but it looks like it needs to be changed and when I pull up the dipstick after driving a while it’s smoking a fair bit. I don’t like this.
Next I need to find a parts list of what all I need for the PCV system and look through my shop manual.
How many of you guys have done this yourself? Should I be all the worried or is it easy?

Thanks for the offer Neil! I think this one will work out it just may take me a bit to fix all its little quirks.
One other thing I’m dreading is fixing the cigarette lighters. The fuse is fine, so I’m hoping that something under the console is just unplugged. Neither lighters or the light on the back of the console work.
I haven’t pulled the bulb yet to see if it’s blown, but I suspect it’s not getting power.

Have the cigarette lighters been used? If they have there is a fair chance they are dirty or rusty and are not allowing electrical contact. I have had to replace the electrical portion in the past on a few. It is however, unusual for the rear one not to work. There are bulbs in both of the units that should light up. If you know how to remove the panel under the parking brake the connector for the lighters is under there. Could be as simple as someone has spilled a drink down there or even the connector is not fully home.

I have never used the lighters. When I first got the car the front lighter was fallen through the hole. I have since retrieved and reattached it and that’s when I tested it.
I know when I took the console apart it looked like a soda had been spilt all down in there. I need to take it apart and check all the wires.
The PCV kit, dash bulbs, oil gasket, hatch lock actuator, and a few other things have all been ordered. Those should be the final repairs. The car passed emissions yesterday, that headache is out of the way!
I took the current lock actuator off, when I did a bunch of busted plastic pieces fell out. Whatever this plastic part was, it controlled the open/close sensor and it opened the lock itself. The last few times I have opened the hatch it’s been sticky and it made clunky sounds, so it looks like me taking it apart finished it off.
Now that the lock actuator is unplugged-no more trunk open idiot light. This is the first time in a looonng time the car hasn’t had a Christmas tree dash!!
Once the PCV is done this car should be in good running condition!

It must be good to feel you are getting near to a finish line. At this age there is typically never a true finish line, but often a tolerable level of function with parts still to fix. My 2000 V70 base just kicked my ass again. After inspection it needs top spring seats (were fine last year), LH control arm (again fine last year), and the RH inner and outer tie rods (PO supposedly had them replace but lied).
Mechanic also said LH axle seal is leaking (it is not it was just some residue left over from being replaced) and the power steering header tank to pump pipe is leaking (again is not just over spill for 3 x drain fills of the header tank).
So getting closer!
Neil.

Aaron... the1999 is a transition year so there are a couple of different versions of vacuum hoses and PCV
You probably have the thermostatted, water warmed ( by coolant
version with two banjo bolts
I’ve seen a couple of versions of vacuum systems on turbo 99s, some with the ejector pump ( a kind of a Y shaped valve in the brake booster line) and mine without it, for instance
I also have a 1998 vacuum sticker diagram under the hood as Goteberg had extras left over in 1999

PCV parts, trunk lock, gear shift light, and a couple other random little things will be here tomorrow. I should get the trunk done tomorrow, not sure on PCV yet.
Compression tested the cylinders today, they all tested identical (dry test).
The car has really come along nicely. There are a couple things I think I will just leave, not really my ideal but I think if I were too picky the car would never get finished LOL.
I was driving it on the highway a few days ago, I needed to merge right because my lane was ending. I had an 18 wheeler beside me and I decided to pass it. Pedal to the floor-coudnt do it. I was at about 55mph when I hit it to the floor, I probably needed to hit 60-65 but it just wasn't going for it.
It was slowly speeding up but by no means fast enough for me to pass the truck, so I backed off and got behind. Think the pcv could cause this? Is it normal? I mean I know its no speed racer.
Could the accelerator pedal need adjusting?
Because I didn't own the car from new or close to new, I don't know what everything is supposed to feel like here LOL

These arepowerful cars and you should be able to merge easily. Did the transmission downshift correctly

I haven't noticed anything weird with the transmission. How would I go about watching for downshift and upshift on an automatic car?
Ive taken it on straightaways and put the pedal to the floor, the most I've ever seen it shift from 0-90 is 3 times.
Usually it'll shift twice( i think)
I am not going to say I have paid perfect attention to this though.
Wouldn't the revs increase even if the transmission didn't shift?
