Give it the full 12V and it should blow. Or if you really want to make sure -- use a flyback transformer from a microwave -- it will go boom!

Said 8 year old enjoyed the visit immensely.
Don’t forget to add both impact wrench and brake bleeding to her resume.

I gave her the bleeder cap and told her to find where it went, took about 10 seconds.

Hmm... just checked out a '98 XC that's making a grinding/groaning from the rear end under 10-15 mph. Debating on buying it, but I don't want to drain my wallet with the AWD. Plus there are other issues with the ABS module, PCV needs replacement, SAS code is present, passenger strut makes an awful clunking, and the passenger rear door needs to be replaced, it had an argument with another car.
Anybody know what the rear groaning is about?

Grinding could be brakes, wheel bearing or possibly rear propshaft but those are just places I'd look first based on your description. A rear groaning noise or humming sound while driving(could be mistaken for an exhaust leak) is usually a wheel bearing.

I'm almost certain it's AWD-related. Probably the diff or driveshaft. I don't think it's the brakes or wheel bearings. It's only when you start moving up until about 15 MPH.

About a month ago I noticed 3 out of 4 CV boots leaking grease on the 96 855, so I parked it. This weekend I finally got it into the garage and the axles pulled. Will try to chip away at re-booting them this week. One of the outers is still intact but I will just remove the outer CV's on both sides do all 4 of boots.
You inspired me to replace the door lock bushing! :)

Checked, double checked and triple checked the status of recirc motor in ECC. Looks like I have to pull it apart. May do this Monday afternoon after the weekly sleep episode.

Got a really clean newer cam sensor from the junkyard today and TRIED to put it in, but I wasn't anticipating the previously stripped out screw to be so hard to remove. Maybe my Craftsman bolt-out socket will twist that thing off tomorrow. What a pain...
And I continue to wait for my 740 parts from FCP. The anticipation is killing me!

I'm a sucker for fixer-uppers. That's a beauty.

How did you find a 740 for $300?

I've perfected the art of buying sub-$500 cars over the past couple years :D
Found it on Offer Up, though. This is the first car I've bought outside of Craigslist.
