Heh guys. My wife says I can't dump any more $$ into my old S70 so it is back to the drawing board in finding another daily driver. Can you please take a look at the Craig's List link here and tell me if this might be worth a look?
A car junky here at work told me that a V70 with high mileage is an accident waiting to happen.
At the bottom is the seller's response when I asked him why he was selling this car after all he put into it.

Selling for a friend who is not a Volvo guy, he's a BMW guy and got this Volvo to commute with but went back to BMW's. I needed a car for a few months and the Volvo needed the brake work & suspension work, so he lent me the car on exchange for the work I did. Now that I no longer need it, car is for sale.

What's bad avout yout S70? At least you know yout car.
The xc 70 looks okay. Be aware of the awd problems, though

Is the 1998 model year for the XC70 considered a "Gen 1 Volvo AWD System"?

He is likely dumping the car because inferior work likely done and car still having issues or got some bad news about the AWD and simply is cutting his losses.

I had a V70 Cross Country new in 1998. By 1999 it lived at the dealer with AWD trouble. Also had reoccurring heater core leaks, and could not sustain speed above 70mph on a hot summer day without puking the transmission fluid out the top vent which the dealer could never fix. It sure would lay a smokescreen and create a huge mess from under the hood to the back window with transmission fluid everywhere. Keep in mind I owned the car from 1998 through late 2001. The factory warranty was needed, I'd say mandatory for ownership. June

June, thanks much for your post. There is nothing like first hand experience and I am sorry for you that you had to deal with that. I think that about sets me straight on the XC70 and an older AWD system. I'll stick with the straight FWD and perhaps just keep looking for another S70. Thanks!
