You should never remove sparkplugs from a warm aluminum head. Engine should be cold to prevent thread damage. Junejeffsws wrote: ↑07 Jul 2018, 05:36 What a disaster. Done a dry compression test today in a warmish car (had to drive about 15mins to get there.)
1 ---- 2 ---- 3 ---- 4 ---- 5
130, 135, 140, 150, 135
Then tried for a wet test. Put some oil in 1 and when cranking the car the pressure maxed out... 300+.... And when removing it smoke was coming out of it and number 3. I may have poured too much oil in. I then continued to test 2-5 without oil and each jumped about 20psi anyway.
Doesn't look good to me...
Glove still blows up after PCV repair.

Whoa, ease up there June!
Compression is tested on I will estimate hundreds of *warm* (even hot) aluminum heads every single day, all across the world.
Use a smidge of anti-seize on the plug threads and don't worry about it for a second.

Okay, ran it again. Much cooler engine this time but not cold cold.

Didn't have a teaspoon handy but put in much less oil this time for the wet test.
Anyway, do those number say anything? I assume it's looking like new seals needed?

A bit of wear on rings but not too bad.

I've read the same.. especially when removing them for the first time in 10 years. Better just undo them first with a cold engine.

Possibly some stuck compression rings? Also read these engines are not that kind on the valve seats..
