Replacing alternator 1998 S70 non-turbo

Post by markntiff »

Right now I'm in the middle of what was supposed to be an "easy" fix. My alternator went on me. My haynes s70 manual gives 4 simple steps to replace it but apparently their power steering pump isn't in the same place mine is! I've taken the auxillary belt off and taken out about 10 bolts and still can't seem to get the power steering resevoir out of the way enough to get the alternator out. There also is no way to get at it through the wheel well. I've tried that already. I've looked all over the sight and it seems I'm the only one that has had this problem so maybe I'm missing something obvious. Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Mark

Volvospeed has a couple of posts in its repair section on replacement. There are a couple of bolts which go through the power steering pulley that you have to fish for. Look through the holes as you turn the pulley and you should be able to see them. Had to replace a power steering unit once and it took some looking to find them all.

Good luch and happy hunting.

Thank you very much for your help. I did find those bolts. There were two bolts I was missing and after I found those two, I was home free. Thanks again!
