Recently had my 2004 S80 T6 inspected and had a steering knuckle replaced at the local Volvo shop. The shop owner stated that I had the wrong brake rotors on the vehicle. He wasn't really sure what the size should be though and the $500 price to do just the fronts didn't sit well with me. Where is a good resource to find out what size they are? I really want to get them swapped out for the right parts, bit of a safety issue. Thanks in advance!!

At a Volvo shop? They should of been able to figure it out.
Check your VIN number, the one you posted does not check sum.

I went out and checked it. YV1TR91Z641367970 the same as I posted above. So I am not sure why its not working.
The Volvo shop had a part number that he got from his source for parts, but no data on it.

You're correct. This is a valid S80 VIN. It checks out here https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-vin-search

The rotor size thing... I admit I don't get it. Can you tell us what the (indie?) mechanic said, specifically? Anything written?

He simply said, the rotors on the front are the wrong size. Didn't say too big or small, just the wrong size. I asked to clarify the size and he said he didn't really know what the size should be, just a part number. He's a small shop and I imagine he wanted to do the work and get paid for it, but I can do it much cheaper, if I can just get the correct rotor size. I can't go measure what is there because it is wrong. I do believe they are too small though, based on a quick visual.

The first step in solving a problem is to determine if a problem exists. I don't know it passes this test. I'd get clarification.

Wrong as in not what it was sold with or wrong as in the pads don't sit right on the rotor?
No. one doesn't really matter that much. It helps a bit with heat management but isn't really critical unless you're track driving it.
No. two should be really easy to tell by just looking at it. Either the pad covers the whole disc nicely or it doesn't.

in my quick inspection the pad does not cover the disc correctly. That and it brakes terribly. I actually thought it was the brake booster issue, but he inspected that and found no issues. So when I say its a safety issue that means I don't think I could perform a panic stop.

I ran it through two VIN decodes and they came up invalid. Tried some more and no flags.
If the mechanic is going off part number alone. It most likely a clerical error. Look at the rotors do they look like they are the wrong size? I think you need a second pair of eyes on it.
There are four sizes listed 15", 16", 16.5" and 17.5". Also there are two different versions of the 16.5, which version depends on your chassis number which is 367970.
