2005 V70 2.4 compressor removal..top or bottom
I read on some early V70's compressor comes out the bottom but you must leave the bolts in the compressor. Another video explains it comes out the top but must remove fan, ps pump and alternator. This is a 2.4 non turbo car 2005.. does anyone know whats best.

Remove all bolts ((no problem if the lower ones dont clear from the fan assy). The alternator comes out just fine from above on the non turbo - just undo the radiator hose at the radiator, then I guess the compressor would follow. The ps pump is just tossed without disconnecting the hoses.
Maybe let us know what is the issue with the compressor, sometimes there is an easy fix

I have not done it on your car, but I have done it on four different Volvos. I have always removed the radiator fan to create tons of space. Pretty easy as it is electric and one giant piece. You will not have the intercooler pipe in the way which is good.
Just look a the space and take off what you think. Then have a towel ready to place under the compressor if you need to take more stuff off. Watch out for scrapping the radiator - another use of the towel draped down. Not one removal went according to plan, but taking off another hose or piece always made it doable. I pulled them all out through the top.
On the bolts, my guess is you cannot take them out or install them for clearance reasons as they are too long. Once you clear the area they can be pulled ouf, but will have to be reinserted upon reinstall. This will also be clear once you are in there as you may not be able to take them out without removing something else - so leave them in if they will not pull out fully. Just fully unscrew them and when pulling out keep an eye on them catching on something.

Are you sure it’s bad? Pressure readings are a poor way to evaluate it unless the rest of the system is known good.

it get cold for a while... then freezes I think. If I turn it off for 2 minutes it gets cold again. I read on line that 40 low 120 high reflects a weak compressor. I'm not great on a/c.. what do you think? the car and compressor has 155,000 miles. I never kept a car this long but it makes sense it is worn out considering all the years of extreme use in this hot southern climate.

It’s an orfice system And the valve is in the hard line with the union coupling. It’s near the front of the engine ( not the front of the car)
Compressor still on these cars are zexel and last a long time because they are well powered for this car. Even in the hot South a 50% duty cycle I still typical operation
I wouldnt touch the compressor until Inhad pumped the system out for 2 hoursand charged by weight.
