2002 V70 sun roof partially broken, switch forward doesn't respond

Post by zwieback »

On my 2002 V70 I can slide the sunroof open all the way (pull button towards rear) and I can tilt (push button up toward roof) but the normal close function (push button toward front of car) doesn't work. This was a minor headache as I could time it just right to get the roof to seal up. However, now I'm selling the car and would like to fix this problem.

Some other details:

1) The sun shade is also stuck and always moves with the sun roof but I think that's a separate issue I can fix.
2) When the roof opens all the way I hear some ugly sounds, not sure if it's related to the stuck shade.
3) My siren circuit is rusted out and I removed the fuse to stop the alarm from going in the middle of the night. It hasn't affected anything else and I think the roof continued to work after the fuse removal but not 100% certain.

Anyone else run into this? Could it be just the switch or is there something more sinister at work?

Thanks,
Andrew

The siren and sunroof on P2 Volvos are married together in a complex way, I think you may have discovered this!

Not sure how to fuse will work, but disconnecting the siren does not affect any other item on the car.. however, as above, it may have already triggered something, maybe try locking unlocking all doors 3 times or maybe undo the battery overnight

For the sunshade search a video on youtube.
