1996 850 NA Stalling out on restart when not up to temp

Post by petek153 »

1996 850 n/a
This has started happening over the past couple months. If I make a run and car doesn't come up to temp and shut it off and restart before it cools all the way down it will start hard and run rough almost like it's getting flooded. If I rev it up and clear it our seems a little rough till temp is at operating temp then is fine and will restart normally. If I try to go before clearing out it will stall and starts and stalls till I can rev it up and clear out. Any ideas replaced plugs wires rotor air filter cleaned maf and throttle body no change.

Sounds like classic symptoms of failing ECT. The ECT is not reporting accurate temperature to ECU, causing ECU to assume cold start and flood the engine. There is a topic for checking the resistance on the ECT to test whether it is out of spec.
