Also consider that alloy rims are also cheap at the junkyard and much lighter than steel ones. Easier to stow. Get one with a reasonably new tire on it. Inflate it to 40 psi and put it in the spare tire well. In 2 years when you think to check it again, it will be at something like 25-30 psi. And some 30x safer than a donut spare every day of those 2 years.

What junkyards are you going to? Every junkyard I've ever been to either doesn't sell rims/tires, and I've never seen a yard sell alloy rims for less than $100 if you can find any there. However, I can get a set of 4 steel rims for $40 at the local salvage yard.

That's funny, it never occurred to ma some yards wouldn't sell them, and I've never seen steel wheels that cheap. But I don't go to a lot of different yards - interesting to hear your experience. When I say cheap I am considering that you don't pay much more for an alloy than a steel, and the number OP threw out there ($150) for a spare.

$21 for steel wheel with tire, $36 for alloy with tire (Or $21 if you can swap them a bent alloy as core ...), and I always see Volvos with alloy wheels when roaming this regionally popular yard: https://www.upullrparts.com/part-pricin ... c94c9-0c8e.

I can't remember the particular yard, but I do recall hauling 2 alloys back to the wreck when the guy at the gate told me alloys with tires were $160... each. Valuable lesson: always check the prices of the items you want before you pull them.

All big Volvos use the same bolt pattern.
Newer ones too but have higher ET...and as long as you stay up to ET 49 it is ok....ET 50 and higher will not fit.
That said....p2 models can use all p80 rims but p80 can't use p2 rims in some cases.

Maybe the tires are too old(DOT#) and can't hold the pressure,valves are not sealing to the rim properly or rims are bent and leaking pressure.
I didn't seen the good rim leaking pressure YET.

I have 16" Persus wheels from the factory.
Factory size was 205/50/16 but Volvo switched to 55 profile because owners were complaining about bent rims with 50 profile.

All big Volvo's rims are interchangeable..some have ET 35...some 43...some 49.
As long as you stay UP TO 49 you'll be fine.
I have 2002 S80 alloy rims for my winter tyres 205/55/16 and they have ET 49 and they are 7J.

Previously I found a rim swap calculator that went into the E number... complicated.
But I would need at least both rear or both front to have the SAME number, would I not?
Or don't you think it would matter for a spare that won't be driven too much?
But the idea of a full size spare is to proceed at full highway speed & have the ABS work correctly etc.

15 inch wheel with a tire that overall comes close to the diameter you actually have mounted would be fine for a spare. For me the idea is to be able to travel several hundred highway miles safely, so a slight diameter mismatch will not be a problem if you can't match it exactly. My P80 cars all have 195-60-15 spares, even the 95 R with 205-55-16s on it. That's a 2.9% difference in diameter which is minimal.

In fact I've never tried to put anything bigger than a 195-60-15 in the spare tire well, those 16s may not fit as they are wider too.

Many web sites will compare diameters (e.g. https://tiresize.com/comparison/). What size are the actual tires on your car now?

That is almost identical diameter to 195-60-15, which are abundant and fit in the spare well. So that's an option anyway, though I understand you may not want to go that route.
