Warning, Replace your cooling system hoses ASAP

One of my first repairs on the Volvo 850 was to replace all rubber hoses. This is a no brainer and the easiest repair as long as you are able to identify what to buy and are smart to buy Volvo OEM rubber (Anything else will have unknown life expectancy). The next thing is to replace plastic stuff. Not all but some.

Robert (RSPI) makes great videos and he is right. Replace all original rubber ASAP.

I had an original radiator hose clamp go on me. Most of the coolant gone in seconds. Fortunately, I heard a "pop," saw steam and shut down within seconds. No harm done.

Ten years ago, something caused my V70 to dump all of its coolant. Maybe a failed hose, failed clamp, or as the dealership told me, excessive pressure in the system. Regardless, I didn't stop right away and the engine overheated to destruction. I paid about $10k to have a used engine installed.

Now it's ten years and 110k miles later. I will consider replacing all my coolant hoses and clamps. I'm going to do the heater core anyway, so I'll have the system drained. I am grateful for this reminder.
