p0106 code on 2.4l 140hp and a few questions

Post by InsanitySpark »

Hello fellow Volvo fans!

I am more than happy to have joined this forum, after many years of just reading it. Happily I was able to resolve most of my problems by reading the threads here and I was quite enjoying my car until recently.
I've been having a P0106 code on my Volvo s60 2.4l 140hp. I have this car for 1.5 years and when I bought it it had 70k kilometers, now is at 142k (I drive quite a lot). I have bought 3 different MAP sensors - no joy. I have tried cleaning everything thoroughly - no joy. I have tested all the hoses for vacuum leak - no joy.
We have attached the car to VIDA for over 3-4 hour period to follow live data - the throttle body seems fine and there is about 1% difference at what the computer wants and how much the throttle body is opened.
The car is driven on Gasoline and LPG (mostly on LPG though). When I bought the car and we took it to VIDA check, they person said that at some point the car gave out a P0106 code (MAP sensor faulty signal) but it was when the car was about 60k, I have seen the same issue once about a month after I bought the car (it was still running on pure gasoline, no LPG installed), then I replaced the MAP, installed LPG and the car run smoothly for about 65k kilometers.
Recently, the code came on, I decided the MAP sensor was faulty. I've replaced it - same issue. Decided it was a faulty sensor again, changed it another time with one from UK, rather than my local dealership (I am from Bulgaria) - no joy.
We started testing hoses - all kept vacuum. When I have left the car in the garage for over 8 hours, I tried pressing the brakes, the pedal is soft and it gets (no pun intended) hard after a few times I press the brake pedal (as it should, which also indicates that the vacuum is there).
I do not know what to do. I've been to the local dealer, they changed a hose, broke 1 plastic, lost my plastic under the engine and I decided I will not get back to them!!!
I've read about 50 threads here regarding this issue and most people said that cleaning the throttle body solved their issue. But I am not using a Magnetti Marelli throttle body, mine is not having the same problem as the older ones. We inspected it and it was clean.

Any ideas? Anyone solving this issue?

Other question is, how do I remove the plastic cover of the speakers on the front doors. Something makes noises in the right door speaker and I wanted to open it, but it required quite a lot of force and I decided before I break it, to see videos. Sadly, most videos are regarding removing the whole door cover, rather than this bit. I dont want to break the plastic pinches that holds the cover to the door.

And one more thing, is there a way to use the wipers to stay a bit higher (like Saab, for example, that with a certain press on the wipers handle they can stop a bit below the middle of the window in order to be heated by the air inside), where my car wipers stay low and they tend to freeze. Quite annoying for a car made in Sweden.

Thank you for your time, Volvo fans :)

Here's another one with the code https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=225817

I'm not sure what is going on but my 170hp also reads positive pressure at idle. A wild guess out there but maybe it has to do with the VVT and the timing advance. Do you hear the engine pinging in hot summer days under load?

At least, here,s one thing that must be done on the non turbo engines (I let the flap on cold air on summer days and 30/70 hot/cold air on winter days)

I think the door speaker cover is glued to the door card. Rather undo the whole card, with patience it is not going to be difficult. The side clips get depressed at center.

As for the wipers, Volvo has it's qualities but being designed by an aeronautics engineer is not one of them :) Saabs are/were nice cars, quite unique features

Thank you for your answer.
I have reviewed that thread you have provided me link to few days ago. The reading on live data are correct, on idle, medium and higher RPM, MAF and MAP are reading correctly.
My hot/cold air flap is working properly, we've tested that as well - all is good. The engine runs smoothly, you can barely hear it.
So there is no option for the wipers to stay higher? Ah, that's sad :(
