Did an oil change today, treated her to 6 quarts of synthetic 5w30. I usually run 5 or 10w40 in the summer.
Replaced a seat heat switch that shot across the compartment when I was removing the tray. Note that the backlight on these switches is the same as those used on the radio IIRC.

I decided to jump the new starter in the '99 V70 XC. The battery was weak (12.3V) but seemed to be enough to engage the starter. It's still not starting. (Video below.) After cranking it again for about 8 seconds, it made a nasty gear-grinding sound.

I charged my battery overnight and jumped the new starter ('99 V70 XC) but now get a spinning sound.

Have you tried to rotate the engine by hand. Could be a bad spot on the flywheel? Or bad bendix on the starter? From the sound I am assuming the engine is not rotating. Ford cars were famous for this 40 years ago. Sometimes by engaging (bumping) the starter for a split second several times quickly would get the starter to engage the flywheel again at least on the Fords with a bad starter bendix. If it is a flywheel tooth than you will have to spin the engine slightly by hand. It is worth a try, June

That doesn't sound good. I assume it wasn't a low voltage issue if you just charged the battery. Did a remote fuel pump swap on the S70 I gave to my mother in law. On the phone on Tuesday with my brother in law who is an HVAC tech, quickly diagnosed the no-start as dead fuel pump, I ordered them a Walbro and Volvo gasket from AutuHausAZ (MIL is near Phoenix), parts arrived Thursday, car up and running Thursday afternoon.
She had telephone quotes ranging $700 - $1500 for the job. We got done for $150, including a new fuel pump relay for insurance. The factory relay was still in there.
