Hi, I'm hoping there's a happy ending to this story. I'm in almost the exact situation. I bought a 2007 S60R with a salvage title and I assume it had airbag deployment. I have the same OWS codes, I've replaced the OWS bag/sensor and the small module that it connects to under the seat with parts from a reportedly known good vehicle. I do have VIDA and have been through recalibration, clearing, etc. but the codes persist. My next step is checking for open circuits in the signal to the SRS, power from the CEM and ground - but I'm not expecting to find anything.

I saw another post that triggered a thought. When trying to diagnose the right side mirror turn signal, I discovered that this car had the right front door replaced with a pre-2007 door that was missing the mirror turn signal circuit. If the airbags deployed and they swapped in an entire dash panel from an earlier, pre-OWS S60, would this cause the OWS codes? The circuits don't seem to go to the IP, but I'm not sure where the CEM is located offhand. Brian, any luck with yours? Thanks for any help!

You night be able to get insight by seeing if the part numbers for the modules are compatible across year ranges, but you are deep into a diagnostic journey where few have gone.

Don't know about Volvo, but in my 1998 BMW 528i with the same issue, I bought an "occupancy emulator" on ebay for $15.
All is well with the BMW now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've read that the BMW OWS is an analog output, not LIN. So there isn't an easy way to fake the OWS output with Volvo. So the CEM is indeed attached to the dash, so it's possible my car got the CEM replaced with a dash swap. I was able to read the CEM part number (30786476) by looking up through the pedals. According to online part look ups, this number was superseded with 31394157, which is listed as the right CEM for my year. So much for that theory. I soldered test leads to the OWS power and LIN circuits at the under-seat connector so I can easily monitor these with the vehicle running. As long as I see constant power, I'd say the CEM side is good. I'll need a oscilliscope to get a decent read of the LIN output and to see if it drops out randomly.

My problem was finally solved by a competent independent technician living 2 hours from me. A member of this forum heard of him from a friend of his (I can PM his name & number.). After using this website https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/defa ... Name=volvo to verify what year & model had matching parts for my car and this download of the complete wiring diagram
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/53373 ... e=2#manual and still not getting anywhere, I gave up and brought it to him. After spending 6 hours with him & $400.00 the problem was solved. The SRS module that I sent out to be reset was returned to me without being reset. A different module took care of the 2 codes (0259 & 0261). The SRS light remained on. Thinking that the bag blowing, the steering wheel was removed, modules checked, replaced, it was found that one wire from the clock spring to the SRS module was broken. That was repaired and solved the problem. I used an inexpensive analog multi-meter to check for the LIN bus signals. If I saw the needle fluctuate while checking a connection, I knew the signal was good. The light has remained off. Good luck. What I have learned from this is make sure the SRS light is off when looking to purchase any car.

Thanks for the update. I wish all mechanics were that good and honest. Well worth driving 2h to see him. As always, the trickier issues are the ones caused by a previous owner/mechanic (may call these 'non standard' issues)

Brian, thanks for the input, very helpful. I may find my problem is in the SRS too. I did get a PC oscilloscope and was able to read the LIN signal under the seat. Next I'll check at the SRS. If it's good there, then I'll look a the SRS module. I'm not sure what you mean by resetting the SRS - after airbag deployment the SRS needs to be reset? Does anyone know if this can be done through VIDA? It sounds like your tech couldn't do this so he installed a used one?
