Check Engine Light on 1995 850
I was curious about the check engine light. Doing a little research on-line I came across the Volvo Speed site. Seems that the 1995 can be reset manually. The site has photos to guide you, unfortunately I did not get the intended response from the diagnostic panel as described in the site. This is the diagnostic panel adjacent to the windshield washer filler. I turned the ignition key to the II position. Plugged the probe into A2 and pushed the button. The LED lights up only while the button is pushed. I was expecting a code set to be flashed. My mechanic says that in my car's case, the check engine light comes on as a result of an overly sensitive pre-ignition knock sensor. He says if the car runs okay, just ignore the light. I would like to reset it if I can figure out how. What am I doing wrong?

to the best of my knowledge you cannot reset the check engine light without some detailed information as to the codes and volvo does not give it away. You CAN reset the oil service light which is a different animal.
I have had the check engine light come on in my 850 turbos, I have 3 of them, due to plugs/cables going bad. Plugs last about 50,000 KM and cables about 200,000 km. The check engine light will auto reset after a series of starts with no problems, depending on how much you drive, it may take a week or so.
