I re-used the junction box, it wasn’t damaged. I just gutted out the crumbled connection pieces and ran new tubing thru the holes. It sealed itself

Decided to take the T5 out for a spin to see if I could get rid of the ticking sound coming from the top of the engine. (Lifter?)

Felt a slight panic when I got a no-crank situation. Locked and unlocked the door with the key to no avail. My brother turned the key on and off a few times, and it started.

Took it for a drive, felt like there was at least a warped rear rotor, bad shocks and struts, and a groaning steering rack. But at least the ticking lifter sound disappeared!

Glad to hear, Bruno.

I decided to open up my used angle gear that I hope to use as a replacement for the current one.
Good: there is no debris in there and it's relatively clean.
Bad...: the spline is stripped and needs welding. A friend will help me with this when the new sleeve comes in.

Question: the current angle gear has got slight lateral play at the output flange that connects to the propshaft.
I need it to last about one more week untill I've gathered all the parts and get around to putting the replacement angle gear in.
Is it safe to drive? I don't feel like disconnecting the propshaft now, I have got acces to a garage next week.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, the lifter noise usually clears out after a drive. Pretty common on these engines! I've found that the Mobil 1 0w40 oil that I use does a nice job of keeping them quiet. It's only once every month or so that my GLT makes a little noise on a cold start, but it never lasts more than 10-15 seconds. It's also not unless the car was sitting a few days.

Scored a wagon spoiler at the junkyard today for my R! I was extremely happy to find nobody took it in the four days the car had been on the lot! Plus the yard is having a 40% off sale this weekend for the new year, so I paid next to nothing for it. Best part is that it had the mounting brackets!
Next step is to get some Venetian Red to paint it!
