FUEL CONSUMTION

Post by andrew nahlous »

my S70 is heavy on fuel considering its only 2.4l engine.
i have had it at the workshop 10 times.but they say theres nothing wrong.i feel that you should be able to get closer to 25mpg than 18-20mpg.There must be a fault somewhere not ruling out a bad design fault.any input would be appreciated

City or highway? If city, you're right on the average:

If highway, look for the highway efficiency poll in this forum.[/url]

andrew,
there are many factors that can change fuel consumption. For instance, how fast you drive your car, how quickly you accelerate, manual vs. auto trans, condition of air filter, spark plugs, oxygen sensor, warm up time, cool down time, and tire inflation just to name a few.
Besides, the 25 mpg sounds like a manufacture's claim. I'm not calling Volvo a lair, but every marque likes to embolish mpg figures.
18-20 is perfectly fine around town.
