3.2l 2010 thermostat change

Glad to hear that it all worked out.

There must be a lot more room under the hood of the XC90 for my S80 I can barely touch the Thermostat.

Was the old Thermostat broken?

My S80 2010 Thermostat was broken but my LR2 2008 Thermostat came out in one piece and then broke a few minutes later.

It did not seem broken, but was definitely original as it had a 2009 build code on it.
The plastic tabs are still intact but the wax cylinder seemed a bit cocked to one side relative to the hole in the stainless bracket that is held in place by the two plastic tabs.
Ill pop it in boiling water to see how it reacts.

Ok....went to find my thermostat to give it a test and it appears it self destructed and cracked off one of the plastic tangs while it was sitting on my work bench. Found the spring about 5’ away.

For my 2008 LR2 my Thermostat also broke on the shelf after removal (in my case it was only about 5 minutes so I heard it while I was installing the new one)

For my 2010 S80 the Thermostat was broken before removal (No symptoms of a filed Thermostat were noticeable, I replaced it for preventative maintenance)

The good news is that you replaced it just in time.
