1999 S70 swapping inline 5 cylinder engines from a 1995?

Post by jjss70 »

Hi, I'm a new member and hoping someone can help answer this question. I have a 99 s70 sedan, with a bad motor. I located another motor but it is a 95 motor. Both are 2.4L inline 5 cyl. turbos but 1 has coil packs and the other is an electronic distributor. Can this be done, and thank you all.

I believe the answer is going to be don't do it - it's a bigger problem than it's worth but don't quote me on it. I believe this is one of those Misha questions - if it's possible, he's done it in Siberia. If it isn't possible - more likely than not it is going to be an issue with engine management systems being incompatible... I don't think you want to get into splicing harnesses...

It's SERBIA!
'99 to '95 is ok as long as you keep the manifolds from '95 and cvvt unplugged.
'95 to '99 isn't possible because of cvvt.

Siberia is in Serbia? They import kangaroos from Austria, too.

I think you could do a cylinder head swap but that's getting to be big job over an engine swap.

I did EXACTLY that and retained the 1999 head from a non turbo; mine had no CVVT in the 1999 head; most non turbo 1999s had no CVVT

Hello again, this is jjss70. I would formally in print, like to thank "wizechatmgr, abscate, misha, and precopster". I do appreciate your vast knowledge and good hearted help in all of these matters. I would also like to thank you all especially for your time. So, THANK YOU GUYS and POSSIBLE GALS also. Now as for the car, I've removed the engine from the "99" and am going to resurface the head just to flatten it out and will check the block. I had a running bet with my friend who's helping me. I guess he gets to buy the steaks. I will repost with a picture when I get it back together. Thanks very much, folks. jjss70

Try the Austrian Kangaroo steaks from Siberia, misha can get them for you.

Is your car a 1999 S70 ( maybe fix your profile?)..which engine does it have?

You can send a picture of the tear down and we can ID it.

I have a lot of esoteric 99 parts from two teardowns in case you need something weird.

Watching for progress!,
