How rare is it? 2001 V70 T5M

Post by musicims »

I am having great trouble finding out the production #'s for a vehicle I recently purchased.

VCNA was no help, said they had no access to the info

2001 V70 T5 manual in Tropic/Scarab green metallic/pearl code 447

I've heard around only 200 TOTAL not including color were imported. Where to people find out this info?! I'd really really like to find out. The car is in EXCELLENT condition.

Sorry, I can't help with research info, but I own one of these cars. Got it from FLA w/ 167,000 mi. Great shape. Now at 203,000 and going strong. Great car - Volvo manual w/ turbo! Expensive to maintain, even if you do your own work (I don't anymore). Corrosion Free undercoats have kept it rust free as a daily driver here in VT. Congrats on your find!

How many miles on it? I've googled Tropic/Scarab and can't even see a picture. Can you upload one ext/int?

A T5 manual is actually quite rare in North America to start with, the manual transmissions are not that common on the S60. Very common transmission in Europe, however they didn't got many T5 because the gas is expensive up there.

The manual transmission is weak at the master cylinder when driving city often, and needs engine out and new pressure plate (full kit) when it starts leaking. Simple plate clutch kits can be swapped, less expensive

The throttle body was also problematic but was probably already repaired.

Hang on it, it's quite a valuable car among the Volvo community (when in good condition)

Color code 447 is Cypress Green...only available on the T5 version in 2001. I don't know if that color code was offered on any other models after 2001. A 2001 V70 T5 manual in Cypress Green is pretty rare. I've owned mine since I ordered it new in Germany (diplomatic sales then imported), and for the last 18 years, I've never seen one in manual. I would bet that 95+% of the T5's sold in the US or Canada came with an automatic transmission.

If you take care of it, it will take care of you...and no, I don't think it's so expensive to maintain if you are proactive and do your own preventative maintenance. No clutch or throttle body issues with mine (so far...knock on wood).

Enjoy your new toy, and welcome to the club.

These models are pretty rare but outside of a really low mile R model there is no history of collectible demand. Thre manuals are coveted By the few and proud but the trans swap is easy and well documented.

Enjoy them as daily drivers!

My 2001 T5's a 449 Mistral Green Pearl. It is a gorgeous colour when clean. No manual here though....one day.

I've seen a LOT of different info about the color so I put in into VIDA see screenshots. I believe it was given different names depending on market/model. I'm going to go off of VIDA but if you look close it can't even get its gearbox info straight.

This one had an aftermarket W/P installed that failed (go figure) so its going to get a set of valves and seals and will be driven with pride. I would just really like to know just how many there were. Attached some pics, shes dirty just after a rainstorm but I believe it was garage kept its whole life. Bought it from 2nd owner who owned it from 13K until now @ 104K

Those are some fine colors! Not sure why Volvo dropped them ? Perhaps not much in demand? Same for the Maya Gold

Yeah, VIDA is a paradox. It is the go-to but it is riddled with errors, this has been show over and over again. All the time on this forum people blindly post up VIDA information as gospel, which can lead to problems. Mix in a little common sense however, and VIDA will get you through pretty much everything.

P2 stick shift should are a dream, I still can’t believe how nicely my 2005 hums on the highway. They got the gearing perfect with a tall third gear and of course a top gear and axle combo that returns 30-32 mpg on the highway.
