Standby until one of the guys who has done a good head gasket RR links you up. Getting it timed before you spin it up is important.

So you already installed the head and the cams, or is it apart?

If it's still apart then just put the crank on the mark before you go to the cams, then install those using the slots on the back. With the crank mark lined up, you can freely rotate the cams if/as necessary, and the valves will not hit a piston.

If it's all together and the crank is on the mark you are good to go, just put the cams in time and carry on. If it's all together and the crank is not on the mark then I think I would pull the cam cover and cams, set the crank, and do the procedure above. You'll have to re-do the cam cover sealer, including cleaning the surfaces. You can possibly jockey it into time by monkeying the crank and cams back and forth, but it is a real headache and likely not worth the effort.

Here's one pretty good timing thread, there are a bunch of good ones actually: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=77373

If the head is off, just align the crank. No problem.

Do you mean exhaust manifold studs?

https://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/S70 ... haust+stud or any machine shop, most auto parts stores - just bring an old stud in.
