No need to tape wires inside car in dry area when pierced. It is not a bad idea to tape them for peace of mind in salty regions.
You can't direct feed the lights on trailer from the car wiring. You have to use a module for the purpose. Curt products that make all types of towing stuff has a module that you give power and ground and then tap in L and R turn, brake, and tail light wires. The tapped connections are miniscule current signals with the power for trailer lights coming from the module's power wire you install. There is a green/red wire by left taillight that can be used for power supply.

DOn't get the power kit they mention, it is long wire to reach front of car and a fuse holder. You can get fuseholder at an auto supply place.
