how do you remove this cover

what I am trying to do is get a power tap for my radar detector
I got rearview mount hardware, so I can tap into the power source
with a short wire harness

to get a clean result like this in the second photo

I put my finger inside this part pulled it towards me

at this connector stuck the pins black into black wire, red into a blue wire and checked with a multimeter
