So if I go the used mill route, what kind of compression test numbers should I be looking for in the used unit?

Should be in VIDA , isn’t the R engine unique in stroke/bore.....and therefore compression, too?

Found this in All-data, your science trained lawyer can do the MPa to psi conversion

So roughly 160-190 psi.

Pascal’s are SI units of pressure.

MPa is 10E6 Pascals

1 atmosphere is 101,000 Pa, so 1MPa is about 10 atmospheres pressure.

I get the same numbers as you in psi

Anybody know whether I can stick that used mill, w/accessories on it, into the back of a P2 XC70?

Glad you're going the swap engine route, much easier and safer (less prone to failure) than doing the head work. Don't know about the transport question.

Megapascal (MPa) = 1 Million Pasacls = 10 Bars.

1 Pasacl = One Newton per square metre.
1 Megapascal = 1 million Newtons per square metre.

Would it be catastrophic or too dangerous to just try tightening the head bolts in sequence a quarter of a turn to see if the leak goes away or is minimized a great deal? Years ago I did that with 3 cars but each were leaking oil rather than coolant. 87 Acura Integra, friend's 88? Mitsubishi Galant & 88 Camry. Budget, time and mileage prohibited doing anything else but that. Did work for all 3 cars.

Neither but that is not going to fix a blown gasket. Once they blow they get damaged , so squeezing won’t fix them

It’s also wasted work to get to the head bolts, too.
