Car jumpstarted, now radio isn't working

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Car jumpstarted, now radio isn't working

Post by usinjin »

Hello all,

I had a bad diode in my alternator that was draining the battery quickly when the car was off. I've replaced the alternator and battery, but now the radio isn't powering on. It's the HU-611 head unit. With the car on I already tested the harness, and it is getting 11.5V. The display reads nothing and pressing the power button does nothing either. I tried the "electronics reset" by locking and unlocking the car with the 5 times in a row in the driver's door already. Is it fried? Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.

EDIT: I'm not actually 100% sure it was the alternator issue that did anything. It was actually sitting outside of the car for a while even before the alternator died. It was kept in a warm dry place. Maybe it just needs to be replaced?

Looks like there are up to four fuses for the Audio system, 11C/15 -17 & 11D/10.

11C fuses are at the end of the dash. 11D fuses are Cargo compartment, most likely for wagons.

Awesome, thanks for the info! 11C/15 was indeed blown. After replacing it I have headunit power...though no audio. The other fuses (including the trunk one) were fine. I will continue to check around. Any further guesses as to the new culprit?
