...Just find a place that uses a waste oil heater in the cold months. I see you're in MN, so finding a shop that has one of these should be easy. I'd say at least half of the shops south of the cities have waste oil heaters. If they heat with waste oil, they won't give a damn about ATF mixed in with used engine oil.

As a child of the suburbs, I'll go the Autozone route. I know how to find one of those. Just can't picture myself going from shop to shop, asking if they burn oil for heat!
And, the thread may have convinced me to add one more item to the to-do list as I try to tame The Beast. So, thanks for that.

Good, and appropriate, phrase! I feel the same pressure.

To GlennG2759:

Keep in mind that the product you want is the Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc LV.....the LV being the designation we need.

Do you have 2 or 3 18mm aluminum washers on hand? Some people reuse 'em, some don't.

Also, ATF is just heavily doctored oil so it goes into oil recycling without issue.

I remember a guy who had a "dual fuel" wood stove with an oil gun installed from the factory. He tried burning waste oil and it made his house smell like an old bus garage. Deadly it was.

I have the LV, washers, and now I know Autozone takes ATF. I could have sworn they refused to take it once before, but that was quite a few years ago and could have been Advance Auto. Either way there are quite a few of them both around me. Once again thanks for great info from everybody.

My local garbage collection company will take up to 2 gal a week of waste oil in the translucent white milk jugs with the lids on. Pretty convenient, although I’m a bit suspicious of where it actually goes.

That's probably true. The last time I used a quick lube type of place they.stripped out my oil drain plug. I asked them to show it to me and there it was on the lift an air rachet. I wasn't having it, they sprang for new oil pan (parts & labor) at Hyundai.

The garbage place probably heats their service bay with it.

There's a company with a tank farm for salvaged oil next to the rail yards. I wonder if it's shipped out and ends up as bunker fuel in ships...? That's some nasty polluting stuff.
