Loosen ANY lug nut

Loosen any lug nut by putting the jack underneath the lug wrench or breaker bar. Then jack up the lug wrench.

I tried this only after bending my original lug wrench AND bending a five foot cheater bar.

If you really think they got torqued to 500 ft lbs replace them all.

If they were just stuck with corrosion, they are fine. In that case, 30 seconds with a propane torch is a much nicer way to remove frozen fasteners.

After a recent oil change and tire rotation I couldn't loosen the lugs even with a five foot cheater. This trick worked.

I used a similar method with a short ratchet and a hydraulic jack to pop loose a crank shaft bolt during a timing belt change on our sienna van. worked like a charm.

Dale..that’s looks like a SnapOn breaker bar, isn’t it? I am not sure I would try that with a cheapie...

Abscate, it is a Pittsburg breaker bar from Harbor Freight. Now I'm getting worried.

Amblerman, that was good thinking on your part.

What I want to accomplish before too long is new calipers. Haven't looked at the allen nuts that hold on the calipers (under the plastic cap.) I'm having reservations... getting the calipers off may be interesting. The brake hose I can soak with penetrating oil but I don't know if I can get that inside the sleeves that hold the caliper bolts. [shrug]

- I always add a tiny bit of wheel bearing grease (about one drop). This way next time it is easier. Have used this trick for 30 years.

- Don't scratch the paint work with your breaker bar!

- A guy on youtube used floor jack to undo the AXLE NUT and it work, see video below...

Thanks.. it was an act of desperation.

I had already tried:
1) wired HF electric impact gun (worked find on volvo.. not so much on toyota)
2) breaker bar + 2 ft of pipe.
3) breaker bar locked against frame and tried hitting starter to jolt it free.

No dice on all .

used jack + short 2x4 + ratchet handle worked.. may have been loosened up by 1-3 above though

The caliper slide bolts are high quality stainless steel so they won’t stick like the Lug nuts.

But.....

The aftermarket ones are crappy steel and do corrode. They don’t usually stick in but’s they can impede proper caliper sliding, which kills your brakes.
