I have read of many problems, as many questions, woeful tales, sound advice and eventually expensive repairs to the AW55-50 transmission in the P2 series models (S60, V70 and XC70) ... and even an attempt to rally support for a class action (BTW, what is the status of this initiative?).
The Aisin-Warner AW55-50 is also used in a number of other OEM applications, including Toyota, Mazda (I think), Saab, some other GM (incl. Opel) and the odd Ford models and probably some other applications not mentioned here if one starts to scratch.
The question is whether the same gearbox have the same range of problems in the other applications than experienced by Volvo owners ... i.e. are the problems inherent in the gearbox design? Or are they unique to the Volvo application?
Has anybody done research on this? If nothing else, it may give even more substance to a class action??
