Hey Erik, would you mind elaborating on this a little? I've encountered the "can't turn key" scenario several times, but have always been able to turn the wheel hard one way or the other to allow the lock to clear the tumbler (or whatever it's called).

You can also wire it to the accessories connector, maybe it's the pink wire that dims with the dimmer switch? Don't remember ...

On this, are you referring to the 12V accessory (lighted bezel)?

I'm talking about when the ignition cylinder is stuck, so the key won't turn one way and/or the other, cylinder can be at any position when it gets stuck so the key may also be held captive. Not related to tension from a locked steering wheel. And sometimes the steering wheel still locks, sometimes it doesn't. The fix has been kicking around the forums for about 10 years, cn90 wrote a nice summary in 2014: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67531. You may want to check out that whole thread, there are some good tips no the later pages.

From your description it sounds like either you have a broken pin/piece in there, or possibly the steering lock "rectangular piece" is sticking, or of course both. I'd Dremel off the plate in your shoes, IMO there is no harm in doing so. You will only lose steering lock if that part is already broken. My S60 the wheel still locks, only the little nub pin was broken. Use a sheet etc to cover the seats and interior, to collect the metal debris from the Dremel.

On an 850, all of the switches are dimmed via a bunch of parallel circuits off of the rheostat (dimmer) switch. Those circuits all use a pink wire. So if you want something that dims with the dash, you can tap into the pink wire of any dash switch. Or, you can tap into the already-open, pink wire of the accessories connector (viewtopic.php?t=69527). You can also get a switched or unswitched hot, or an unused ground socket, from there.

Ow...that IS disturbing. The first reaction I have is she's going awfully fast at dusk on a 2-lane in wildlife habitat.

I have hit a deer, on a 2-lane, at dusk, and also yelled out loud. We were not going fast - the thing was apparently going parallel to us on the opposite side of the road and dove across the road, drivers front, diagonally. WHY did he need to get in front of us and cross right then? A Sheriff's Deputy had to shoot him. We ended up repairing the headlight, hood, windshield, drivers fender, mirror, drivers door, and painted most of the side of the car. Still bothers me.

Today I returned my 2001 V70 T5 ETM to XeMODex. It appears my extensive review of wiring harness, connections, relays and fuses were only for practice and the no start problems were a failing ETM. So far (5 days) no problems after replacing the ETM that was rebuilt by XeMODex in 2016. They offered the ETM replacement under warranty.

Did the same job, only I've used a knob from the S80 (with the geartronic transmission). The knobs are virtually the same. Side note, when inserting the knob into the shifting lever, the knob button needs depressed while the knob is strongly pushed down in order to fully engage it. I've also swapped the conical plastic piece
Is there by chance a write up on how to do it, or just pull up really stiffly?

Added IPD poly inserts to the engine crossbar end mounts of my '06 Volvo V70. They definitely stiffen up the brace, a little more snap from start and no noticeable added vibration. For $10.95 you can't go wrong. Glenn
