The mexican way is the same as our proven method...see repair database section for this under "modified transmission flush" method. No matter what you do, you really NEED to get the transmission software upgrade. From my understanding, the stop-neutral is one of the main things (as well as lack of tranny flushing) that ends up killing these transmissions.

I will let you guys know how much the dealer wants to upgrade the software. Here everything is expensive. There is only 1 dealer here in Monterrey and there are more than 1 million people. I cannot go until next saturday so then I will let you know how it goes. My wife wants to sell it.

Yes, I used Toyota T-IV in my 2002 Volvo V70XC and it is fine ... it is the fluid Toyota prescribes for their application of this gearbox in some Toyota models and its variant in the Lexus models.Pepo wrote:the mext center is in spanish and makes little since. can I use the toyota tIV fluid in my trans? we do have a toyota dealer here.

All of the rubber hoses (large and small) are suspect of leaks...especially where they make connections or have a rubber flexible "elbow." A really easy way is to get a can of carb cleaner and spray a fine mist all around those and any other suspected area as your car is in park and idling. If there is a leak your hose(s) will pull in the car cleaner and you will hear your engine surge slightly. Just take your time and do one section at a time and don't over-do it. The stuff is flammable so also, don't smoke as you're spraying.Pepo wrote:Made in japan how could I find the vacuum leak you refered to?
Good luck with this and let us know what you find.

Well if you keep your Volvo you may end up sleeping in it! You can always get another Volvo that will love you, but as we age, another wife wants us to spend money, not save it.

$1000 is a lot of money and it can be spent foolishly. The wife should accept a software upgrade to get rid of a lot of the BUGS inherent with the original program. Throw in a transmission oil change and you may get by at $300. Then the car should be a lot better, and ready to be sold if she still wants to. At this point you can both decide on the cost of switching to a Lexus of the same year. May be she won't want to.

Well, I have am going to ask my brother-in-law to bring me a case of trans fluid. The mechanic here said he will charge me 75 dollars to do the "dialysis" to the tranny. Now I just need to look for the fluid. He said I needed a case (12 bottles). I hope that will take care of it. Tomorrow I will try the vacuum leak detecting. Yeah she still wants me to sell it. Here on top of buying tags we have to pay a tax for having a car newer than 10 years and it is based on a percentage of the original price. So this car was easy to buy but expensive to maintain. My Friend has a 2001 S40 T5 and has no problem with it. It even seems quicker than mine. Mine seems to cut out when I punch it.

I just finished putting in 11 liters of Toyota T4 transmission oil as a flush. Kept the 12th to top up if needed. All Toyota dealerships should carry it at very competitive prices. As a result the tranny shifts very nicely now. Effortlessly in minus 20 degree celcius. Next do the upgrades to the software in the computer.
