How much transmission fluid to put back after draining it.

Post by XC60Driver »

I have 2010 XC60 T6 AWD. I drained transmission fluid, but I've got a bit of the spillage before I could accurately measure how much fluid came out. Does anyone knows in general how much transmission fluid should go back? Is it around 3 and 1/2 quarts?

Thank you!

Put in a gallon, crank the engine and let it run 10 minutes from cold or if already warmed up then go 2 minutes and leave it running on level ground in Park and remove the TX40 screw in the middle of the 17mm internal drain plug/level spill pipe. All the extra will run out and it will go to a slow drip-drip-drip. Put the TX40 back in and snug it down to 5 ft-lb/8N-m and you're done.

The short answer to your question is yes about 3.5 quarts will drain out.

When I’ve changed mine I will admit that I have carefully measured the amount removed and added back the same amount.

Having said that what Jimmy wrote is the conservative approach and it doesn’t require you to measure how much was removed.

With that in mind I recommend that you do it once and do it right, what Jimmy wrote is the easiest way to get there.

Take care

Paul
