I actually compared all the iPd springs to the stock one a few weeks ago after reading what someone said about it on Swedespeed, how he was suspicious of the blue spring. Compared to stock, the blue spring actually feels SLIGHTLY weaker. Granted, this is just by look and feel, but it's worth noting. The red spring is definitely stiffer (this is what's in my car now) and the standard (black?) spring is much weaker than stock.
That said, I don't notice any difference in how the car performs.
The P2 XC90s are some of the safest cars on the road, without a doubt. Hell, Volvos are in general, as we all know by now! That one held up way better than that E65!
Anyway, I may have accidentally gone and bought another one... more details on that when I pick it up Tuesday... all I'll say is that the engine is turned the right way!

I sure hope it's that 1990 740 Intercooler Turbo wagon I posted in the craigslist section. $2,200 and the ac even works! Red paint, black leather. I was tempted to grab that one myself. Of course a overpriced 97 850 was posted shortly after my post and it got tons of attention. I'll never understand the infatuation with the 850 on here. Volvo made so many other wonderful cars! Most of which drive better than the 850. That 740 hopefully goes to a Volvo enthusiast. I believe the intercooler turbo wagon is on the rarer side and hopefully will be saved... June

I wish! It's of the red block wagon variety, though! My first RWD wagon, actually. It's certainly a project though, straight body and clean interior but the engine is coming out before I touch anything else.June wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 20:39 I sure hope it's that 1990 740 Intercooler Turbo wagon I posted in the craigslist section. $2,200 and the ac even works! That 740 is a gorgeous car, I've always wanted a red turbo wagon. Two 740s I'd love... a beige '88 and a red '90... both turbo, manual wagons.
I like 850s, but I agree about Volvo making better cars... the X70s are quite the improvement even! I do like 850s though. I would love one for a platform when I do a big turbo P80 build.

My first Volvo was a 89 740 GLT. I drove it 5 years and it was wonderful! I so wish I still had it. I opted for the radio with the separate equalizer which at the time was the best Volvo offered. I mention it because it was the most important option for those car beside A/C and turbo. A few years ago a one owner 940 SE super low mileage garage kept came available in Atlanta. If the guy had been reasonable I would have that car now. I still kick myself for not taking the chance. It was big money of course. Oh, it was ugly grey which didn't thrill me. Keep us informed on your new project! Junebmdubya1198 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 21:17I wish! It's of the red block wagon variety, though! My first RWD wagon, actually. My old 740 had the graphic equalizer, but the audio sounded pretty bad... unfortunately that was due to some hack job wiring from the previous owner. Really cool system though.
I'll definitely post pics when I get it home! I'm excited to tear into it after I wrap up the 2000 S70!

My 740 was brand new when I bought it. The skinny standard stereo was awful! When new the optional one with the equalizer unit sounded tolerable. I was trading a 86 Park Avenue with the optional Delco Bose soundsystem which had remarkably clean sound. By 1995 Volvo was putting better stereo systems in.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 08:15Some people think they're selling gold, don't they? Looking backwards the 740 optional soundsystem would probably seem bad. We would be comparing it to today's technology. When I drive a service loaner and then get back into my 04, I miss the new car's stereo until I get used to mine again...
That 940 SE was in remarkably good condition. I was willing to pay, but Atlanta is a days drive. I was not willing to pay long distance without seeing the car and the clean title. The photos of the car were clear it was practically brand new. I recall it had like 40K on the clock. The SE is the 940 to have! Special Equipment = SE. From the Garrett turbo, to being fully loaded with the rarest of options. June

My new thermostat housing from Skandix was due to arrive today so I started preparing while it was still daylight.

I had already swapped to hex bolts for the temporary repair so it wasn't too hard to get the top off this time.

This is the bit I had to file to make the V40 part fit.

The new parts arrived just after I finished dismantling.

Subtle differences between the 850 and V40 parts.

The tricky bottom bolt. Surprisingly easy to access with an L shaped T40.

All back together ready for refilling, and I took the opportunity to renew the coolant because I don't know how old the existing coolant was. All seems well after a spirited test drive- temperature gauge behaving as it should, heater working well and coolant level stable. There was no real need to replace the top housing but I wanted something visible to show for the time and money spent.

Yeah, I can't blame you there. Fortunately I have family in Atlanta, so I'd have somewhere to stay if I decided to grab a car down there. Lots of good Volvos tend to appear in the area. Plus it's only a 4.5 hour or so drive for me.June wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 10:04 My 740 was brand new when I bought it. The skinny standard stereo was awful! Definitely true with sound systems though, my uncle's 2016 Silverado has a great stereo, especially now that he's upgraded the amp and added a subwoofer. Now that it's tuned properly, it sounds incredible. And I thought my 4x50w amplified SC-901 in my V70R sounded good!
Speaking of audio, I'm really excited, I actually just scored a great deal on a new open box Onkyo stereo receiver for my garage. Chromecast audio and bluetooth built in... many more features than my older current Onkyo unit that was my grandfather's! That one will need to come inside, then I can fix the sticky power button and put it in a safe place.
