Then what? You go inside again and the car idles, wearing it excessively and creating a bunch of entirely unnecessary emissions? Or do you go to work in flip flops? ;-)

Edit: I can sort of see the point of remote start if it's a gazillion degrees out and the seats are so hot from the sun they burn. The AC needs a few minutes to sort that out and it works just as well standing still. But for heating the car it's so terribly inefficient.

I just help the plants to have some food. Also my kids complains when it's too cold in the car.

Yeah, WFH permanently. Best commute involves no pants.

It is always interesting to search the forum and find such great insight. I'm now investigating silicone pad block heaters...

I run the Kats 24150’s on everything. Wire wheel the bottom/center of your oil pan, adhere pad, then seal off the edges with red high temp sealant. I route my cord end through the egg-crate grill. Recently I temp-gunned the oil pan to see how effective it was - the pan within 1-2”
of the pad was around 147* degrees F, oil temp was (again) around 63* degrees F. This was after an overnight low of -21F and the heater had been running about 2 hours.

Oil pan heaters are great as it also helps heat the block and the water in it as well. You used to also get units you could install into radiator pipes to circulate and warm water.

There have been many issues raised about remote starters and P2 cars. I did talk to the dealer about a remote stat for our 06 XC70 and they stopped selling it.
I have a Viper 2 way system on my 00 P80 'R' which is also a an immobilizer. It has worked well for about 8 years so far with re-chargeable fobs. The downside is I had to get a 3rd key programmed to allow the system to work around the antenna ring. That gets a lot more expensive with a P2. You don't need the whole fob but you will need the part with the transponder.

I am torn about fitting a system to the P2. My wife and son can't make up their minds if they want a system or not. I was quoted about $700 CDN to fit one.

Newer systems do have a special piece that can be added to work around the key issue. However, at the back of my mind is always the chance that it damages the cars electrical system. I do also know people who have remotes added to their P2 cars and no issues.

It is a somewhat moot point as Calgary has a bylaw which supposedly does not allow you to idle your car!

Neil.

I'm fortunate that at home I park in a spot that is easy to get power to. Plan to do some checking at work.

Based on immobilizer design definitely seems not worth it unless you'd use nearly daily to justify potentially problems.

Heated seats work too.

I have a seperate issue where my S60 will blow warm'ish but not hot air to the floor. Going to backflush the heater core at some point. In 0-10°F this week it was tolerable but not ideal.
