I'm new to Volvo and need to do a valve job on my '13 S60. Looking through VIDA I see the tool: 999 7107. "Support". I gather I need to support the block underneath somehow. It's very vague. (I guess only showing a picture is really not enough!)
First off:
1) Must I lift the block to install this tool?
2) Can I make this tool or are there alternatives?
3) Is there a place which sells this tool for less than $30?
I have similar questions about tool: 999 5670. --Those reverse pliers to pry the cam cover off. Alternatives, etc?
I'd be grateful for any advice you could give me.
Special Tools?

9997107 is a 3 point engine support bar.
Alternative to 9995670 is a Chisel and a tack hammer. Don't try to beat it off. Tap Tap all the way around the cam cover, the objective is to split the cam cover's liquid gasket. Use 9995454 to prevent warping the cam cover. The head and the cam cover are line bored and matched at the factory. You cannot just go and get another cam cover.

Thank you for your kind reply Rick!
I bought a cam alignment tool kit, which has the '5454 Cam Cover compressor in it, but I can see those separation pliers '5670 make some sense. The upside-down hammering with a chisel seems unwieldy to me. Have you done this procedure with a chisel yourself?

There are 4 spots on head that are for the tool to be used. They are tabs or lugs on the cast upper and lower parts of the head. Usually the first place you pry will cause the sealant to break bond and then the cover can be removed. The alternative to the tool is to use 3 flat screw drivers. Two are placed with the third inserted between then and tapped to spread. The third could be an appropriately sized chisel. The outer two are against the head and since the motion is not against the tabs they do not get marred or marked up from the process. You DO NOT pry on the sealing surfaces or in the bores on ends of head where cams are located as that can damage important sealing or functional parts of the head.

The cyanoacrylate based sealant not only seals oil in, it bonds the two parts together to make the head more rigid so it has the two parts stuck pretty good. Any way you force the top half off the bottom without damage is OK. Where they put the tabs is a beefy part of the head and was put there for the purpose.

Yes I have used a chisel.
I use the words Tack Hammer ( low mass ) and Tap Tap ( non-aggressive strike ) for a reason. Tap the chisel in at one point until the two pieces separate just a hair then move on to the next point go all the way around.
Loosen tool 5454 two turns and repeat until the liquid gasket is split and the two pieces are free from each other.
If you try to do too much at one time you can warp the cam cover. Use the 5454 tool to keep you from moving the cam cover to much at one time and warping the cover.
