95 850 GLT Window Track or Alignment Issue

Post by v850 »

The passenger door's window does not move up and down along the path it should, and so someone has to push it back into place every few inches to help it move along. It can go down just fine, but not back up.

I've done quite a bit of searching, found guides on how to remove the panel and such, but haven't found an answer to how to deal with this. I did find a post about someone having a similar issue, but it didn't have any replies.

I don't know what to look for when I take it apart and/or how hard it is to fix, and what parts I need.

Any advice is sincerely appreciated :)

I'd say the track has "derailed." You won't know exactly how until you get into the door to look. I suggest you take the panel off via the instructions you have. If it's beyond you, you can always put it back together before fubarring the mechanism inside completely. Btw, the plastic clips on the lower side of the door panel break off easily so go slowly and easy on those when you take off the panel. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Ok, will do. Just for documentation purposes in case someone else finds this and has the same issue, I'm following this guide: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... hp?t=11338

I took the panel off and am a bit confused, here are some pictures:

I'm a bit confused what to do next, because I'm not sure what's behind the metal plate that is held on by the 8 black screws. Is there a piece of metal behind it that keeps the window going in the proper direction?

I've tried removing the metal plate and so I started by removing all the screws.

Now I'm stuck with trying to pull it off, but it feels like it's still attached to something. Here a picture of the previous one with a circle around where it feels stuck, and do note that there are no directly visible screws there.

I was getting ready to remove everything from there and disassemble the whole unit by starting with removing the glass, but I decided to wait because I think the issue might be the weather stripping around the window itself because there was a point where it would stop going up straight as it should, but until then, it was fine.

I should have thought of this sooner, and when the dealership opens on Monday, I'll pick up the parts and we'll see if that fixes it. I wish I had thought of this sooner.

v850,

Did your window problem get solved by replacing the trim? I have exactly the same problem and wanted to get some guidance from you.

I do wish he had posted back. Usually when these things happen it's not the weather stripping but the frame that holds the glass in the door (like I said, a derailment). Let us know what you find...and post back, please!

I have removed the inner door panel and can see the track holding the glass. Need advice on the following:

1. Do I need to remove the panel holding the motor etc.?
2. Is it likely to just be alignment or will it need replacement of parts? I use the car for work and therefore need to make sure that I fix the problem in one sitting.
3. Any other guidance/steps to fix the problem.

Please send me an email and I'll send you a PDF file that will most likely help you with this.

Edit: Just sent. I hope it helps.
