Which would you buy all things considered in terms of cost of ownership and ease of DYI? Am considering purchasing one of these. The 2011 XC60 has the transmission and P0430 problem. Owner purchased for daughter in Nov. 09 so don't know if it is consuming oil and causing the P0430 for the CATS. Was thinking of the Scotty Kilmer Lacquer Thinner Trick might fix the P0430.

I'd lean towards the XC90 for ease of repair and ownership cost. The 3.2 in the XC60 is a good engine from what I've heard, and not terrible to work on (again, just from what I've heard), but I know for a fact the 2.5T is very easy to work on. It's a 2006, final year for the 5 cylinder XC90, so it's probably the best year to have.
The AWD system requires a little attention, but it's nothing bad. I'd recommend replacing the AOC fluid and filter if it hasn't been done to keep the pump and DEM in good shape. Otherwise, the AWD is pretty reliable and low maintenance.
The 3.2s are known for oil consumption and have been known to have issues with the READ. Being a 2011, it likely wouldn't have any problems with the READ but the possibility of consumption issues still exists. Probably not anything unrepairable (PCV getting clogged is common, and much easier to repair than the white block PCV) but I just don't know enough about them.
