Has anyone done a DIY service on the window shade operation of this cover? Mine is weak and Im guessing it needs a new spring

I had a quick look at it and it isnt simple to disassemble, unlike the Patriarchy.

Statement of problem

To access the spring mechanism you have to get this off, that looks snarly

It’s a recessed press fit shaft retainer

Update

Covid repairs

Both plastic ends knock iff with a rubber hammer, distribute load to avoid breaking plastic

Driver side spring Axially

Pass side sprung in axial rotation

I could not get mine to pick up the rotational tension.

Work in progress

It looks like the helical spring on mine is broken so it isn’t tensioning the roller. I might just make a window shade type tether to roll it up.

Those tutorials are truly for the dedicated.

Exactly! Hence the reason I have not found the time to sit still long enough to seriously consider tackling it....with my luck... SQUIRREL!....
