Could it be a bad starter relay? I probably have a handful of junkyard relays floating around. Who knows, one could even be a starter relay.

Is the starter on a dedicated relay, or would I be losing other stuff as well if the starter relay were bad?

Bosch MSA is engine management for diesel.
Bosch MSA was used in Volvo Cars with Audi engines.

Thanks Rick. Replaced "J" relay with one I had in inventory so either I have 2 bad starter relays, or the ignition switch electrics are bad.

Depending on the chassis break number, I have an extra ignition switch, electrical side, in inventory as well.

Also:
1. Could be wiring and/or connectors between ignition switch and starter relay.
2. Could be wiring and/or connectors between fuse 11A/3 and starter relay or fuse 11A/3.
3. Could be column lock on the fritz, not letting the key go all the way to POS III.

The Yellow-White wire at the ignition switch and starter relay should switch on and off with key POS III. If it does not at the ignition switch the problem is on the steering column.

That’s terminal 2 on that J relay. It should go to 12 V relative to an engine ground when key goes to pos III
