It's a great feeling when a part yields it's treasure!

Hi all,
I am putting on the new exhaust/muffler, the gasket that goes from the catalytic converter to the exhaust (P/N 9179056) comes with one side metal colored and the other side is black, do you know which side goes where?
Is it metal towards the catalytic converter and black towards the central exhaust?
Thank you
Alex

Hi,
Nobody knows?
As a matter of fact, the original gasket was all metal, this one is genuine Volvo but different.

Does anyone have a part number for these studs? I’m looking to replace the studs, nuts, and gasket and all I can find is the gasket. Thanks!

Very late now but I would guess the metal goes towards the engine . Indeed, the original one is full metal, and I did reuse it 2-3 times with no problems. As for the question above, the studs are #1209295 but get the black coated ones, because the silver ones will badly seize the bolts on them. The studs are pressed in the flange when the nut is tightened down, so if willing to remove the studs, the only way is to drill them out - however this may damage the flange hole so new studs may not fit as well. I rather used regular exhaust bolts with are black coated because the standard silver hardware will get stuck within days and it's impossible to remove - will need be cut

Sorry, don’t want to appear difficult and probably should have mentioned this in original message but both part numbers mentioned, 982797 and the 1209295 seem unlikely. The 982797 looks right except it’s a bolt instead of a stud and the 1209295 is a stud that mentions being a wheel stud. The size of these exhaust studs would never be used as a wheel stud. I don’t know what I am missing and why the heck the diagram that shows the pipe and gasket doesn’t show the mounting hardware. I don’t know if my XC70 is unique, but assume someone has solved this prior. I may just use the bolts if I can’t find the studs. Thanks for the quick response.

Don't even bother with part numbers & studs - plain old bolts, nuts, and lock washers will do fine (you'll likely need a new 2-hole gasket though, you can make or buy one). I say plain because even fancy stuff will likely need to be cut off the next time anyhow. Everything will most likely be rusted solid. Just lop off whatever remains are left of fasteners (choose your means), drill where the old studs are stuck in the DP flange, then replace with bolts, lock washers, and nuts. I usually use 3/8", but suit yourself.

Not sure if this is a fix for your overall problem, in the correct size of course?Phantomphixer wrote: ↑27 Apr 2020, 10:26 Does anyone have a part number for these studs? I’m looking to replace the studs, nuts, and gasket and all I can find is the gasket. Thanks!

This is a place where the cheap silver cheese “ stainless steel” fromLowe Quality or Home Desparate work well.
The metal content is so weak that they don’t rust too badly are easy to cutoff with a nail file. The hangar design of the Volvo muffler is really good at taking the load of these joints, unlike BMW
