Shifting issues

Post by AnotherVolvo2003 »

Ok, I have a 2003 XC90 T6- I know great transmission! Anyway, it has 82,000 miles, the transmission was of course out, had it dropped and the clutch packs replaced and anything else in the master rebuild kit. Put it all together and is was fine for a few weeks. Now I have a “Service Transmission” message coming up and it won’t get out of third gear. After I turn off the engine then later restart it, the message is gone and it’s fine for a little while then does it again. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Did you add the Transgo Shift Kit? If you replaced the clutch packs because it was needed and did not install the Shift Kit it might be back to normal bad. TrippleEdgePerformance recommends the Shift Kit during rebuilds to help with shifting points and other shift related issues inherent in the problematic design.

Sounds like a solenoid for 3rd gear isn't working correctly. Most transmission rebuilds require the valve cover replaced.

Is it going into "limp home mode"?
Do drive it anymore if it is going into limp mode. Did you have a software update installed after you installed master rebuild kit?
