There is a specific code for the air pump if you remember it.

Bothers me though that your battery seems to have died. Shouldn't happen from even a secondary air pump going bad. Just for your info., the 850 and first gen. 70's are fairly prone to an electrical leak...usually it's a bad door, the trunk or rear gate (wagon) that doesn't turn the light off back there but more than any, it seems to be the glove box door that even when it's shut the glove box light stays on. Just check it out for a just in case. If it's still on with door shut, a penny or two taped to the striker area on the door takes care of it.

I did notice that the ashtray's light in the front doesn't seem to shut off... I just finished checking my heater core to see if it was leaking, and noticed the ashtray light on... I will check other light sources too. Thanks. :)

Pulling the battery's charge down just enough so that the engine will crank but leave very little else in terms of an electrical charge could do the dimming of your lights until you drive around a bit. It's certainly worth checking out.

Following up on this thread:

(1998 V70R)

I had my secondary air pump, SAS valve, and lines checked this morning. No problems. The tech drilled a small hole in the air pump to drain any water that might have been trapped inside -- nothing.

Turns out that a dying alternator is to blame for not charging the battery enough on those cold Canadian mornings, making short trips, etc. So, good news: I will get my alternator rebuilt. I can remove it and install it myself, saving some $$$.

Thanks for all those who posted!

:D
