A while back I bought a dedicated touchscreen panasonic toughbook already setup with VIDA and a dice unit packaged together from a swedespeed user, he had a few options:

$215 shipped for a Dell

$290 shipped for a touchscreen Toughbook.

$250 for a non-touchscreen Toughbook

He wanted $100 for the dice from him or recommended an ebay seller for $72. Not sure if he is still selling but years later the toughbook is still going strong and it has been 100% painless, which to me was worth the premium charge. I just used it the other day to do the trans fluid change reset, monitor temps after an ATF cooler install, and check my intake/exhaust timing vs nominal after I had the timing belt off. Very useful tool. If interested send a PM, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a referral but I don't want to drop his name without talking to him, just putting it out there as an option.

As far as finding wrong parts, most should be correct as long as it identified your VIN and you select the correct boxes for trans, sunroof, etc. If you are inputting your VIN just double check you've transcribed it properly. Besides that, it is possible that when browsing for parts some areas note variations within model years that vida does not identify, also because these non-online versions don't update, sometimes we miss updates like the banjo bolts for the pcv system changing, or some others. Last there are a few that just seem wrong, yeah, but the number of incorrect parts seems very small. Like I noticed the 2 main bumper cover bolts the dealer pulled up in vida for my car are monstrous, when in reality they're little M10 bolts. So not sure what's up with that, but 99.something% accuracy is pretty good, and using the forum to verify stuff before ordering has worked out well for me thanks to the generosity of people on this forum with their time and knowledge. Anyway, overall, highly recommend vida, and this guy's preloaded laptops.

For $100 you can get vida loaded and ready to run on SSD USB drive, run it on any computer you want .
It runs win 10 but you don't need win 10 on the host computer, its all self contained on the SSD.
Just change boot order in the bios to put SSD first and it will boot the SSD instead of the host machines system.

I also bought a preloaded laptop to avoid problems, now its out of date, expired and won't run vida, it should have been programmed to never go out of date. Thats what I thought i was paying $200 for. I'm done with it.

Expiration date is a plain text in SQL database, you can set it to whatever date you want.

My "community edition" VIDA 2014D runs on a Linux laptop inside KVM virtual machine running Windows 7 Home edition. VIDA Online is a P.O.S. in terms of software quality. It bricked my wife's XC60 when it hung amidst sw update. Volvo Cars of NA walked away. Offline VIDA is much more stable, but it can't be used these days to program modules.

VDASH might be much cheaper: https://d5t5.com/article/vdash-volvo-diagnostic It still requires DiCE. Chinese clones of DiCE work well, when they work.
So, I have the VDash software, the DiCE, hooked it up, saw that it worked (the start button is sneaky), and am now wondering how to "commit" changes to the CEM. There's a button in VDash that is "Common" changes, which includes turning of the Neutral in Drive, etc. But I'm not seeing a commit button. Does it just do it when you make the change?

Thanks.

abscate wrote: 11 Jun 2020, 05:10 I believe to program a remote or keys you need both VIDA DICE and a purchased subscription to access the Bolvo server to enable pins and keys. It about $1000 for three days access.

In short, keys fobs from 1999 on are dealer items
I'm not sure what ended me up back here on this post, but I figured I would add my $0.02....

I bought a remote on eBay a few years back for my 2002 V70 2.4T. I forget what I had to do to program it, but I was able to without VIDA, and I certainly didn't go to the $tealer$hip.

I just googled and came up with this. it sounds familiar....

https://blog.keylessentryremotefob.com/ ... m%20remote.

In case the link is broken:

"If you have a red security light in the dash of your vehicle, you will be able to manually program this remote. If you do not have a red security light in the dash of your vehicle then you will have to take this to the dealer for programming. To manually program this remote, ensure that all doors, hood, and trunk are closed. Insert key into ignition, turn key to position #2 and back to off at least 5 times in ten seconds. The LED indicator should start to flash, leave ignition on. Once indicator starts you have 15 seconds to program remote. Press the lock button on the remote. The indicator LED lighting for about 2 seconds acknowledges the programming."

So there ya go. Hope this helps someone!

:-)

Goodnight Elizabeth.

Hey thanks. This one is slightly different. I do indeed have a red light (LED) on the dash, normally it flashes about once a second to show that the car is locked and the alarm is armed.

I'll try this version of the setup.
Thanks again.
