wiring help needed

OK LONG STORY SHORT ... transmission went bad pulled the whole motor and tranny out but it back in and i have a brown wire coming out the engine harness where the main red power wire comes out i dont know if it goes to ground or connects the powers source on the starter? the guy who pulled it our dont remember and now i checked it has 10 -12 volts coming before i fry my ECM does anyone know what it is on a 2001 volvo c70 2.3

You should have two grounds attached on the subframe with M6 bolts, there are a couple of grounds near the starter too, that bolt to th engine.

Wiring by color isn’t-t good practice. Brown is “standard “ for ground but who knows what repairs might have been done, and If you found the one auto tech who conserves OEM wire colors on a repair, rejoice.

If the brown wire had a circular lug on it, that s’more evidence it’s a ground, but again, a wire by color strategy can cost you $3000

i read the prints i am good with all electric by trade but my mechanical guys were certain it might be power so the fight begins LOL. but i have bought a manual online 10k pages whats up with that. I am trying to find the harness in the manual and just got eye tired but thanks ever so much for the help i will tackle in the morning.

Hey guys any of you know if the engine harness of a 2001 c70 is the same for 2.4 and 2.3?

Yes it is. Ecm is different.
