hi back with more advice can anyone advise on this topic please
did read somewhere that the bushes are meant to be measured as to how much protudes after fitting
these have been replaced before so no idea if someone had fitted them right as they were only replaced less than 800 miles ago and are now utterly trashed all the rubber has parted from the metal outer casing
any help would be most grateful

I suppose you're talking about the bushings on the control arms?
The control arm are suppose to be tightened to the vehicle as the car sits on the pavement, not while it is up off of the ground. Without load on the car when these are installed, exactly what you describe happens. Also, using poor quality parts to begin with (such as ScanTech) front end parts does not help. Still, 800 miles seems very little for this to happen. Take your car back to where the work was done, show them the problem and complain that it was just done 800 miles ago. Maybe they'll make things right, maybe not, but it's worth a try.

hi thanks for info on this subject guess what went back about new bushes and had no joy from them so guess this is down to me now
the manual keeps refering to a gauge to fit these or is there another way i can do this can not rely on how these have been fitted as the previous guy did not have a gauge either and yes the bushes were scan tech so i best get gen volvo ones now
hope you can advise as the tyres are knocking out as well thanks paddy k

No need for a puller and replacing bushings. Just replace the complete control arm (also called the A-arm). I think there's some places on your side of the pond. billofdurham would know. You might try messaging him for a good supply place that sells inexpensive genuine Volvo parts.
Good luck!
