the car has been leaking oil for several months. Burning smell has become very strong. Use at least a quart every two weeks, probably more. Oil spot on ground overnight sometimes size of baseball. Not every time. Looks like along axle, right center.
Have bottomed out with some potholes, one severe enough to break belt in right front tire. Could I have damaged the oil pan? Or is it more likely seal or gasket of some sort. Have not had it up to look.
THanks

The only way to answer your questions is to get under the car and take a look. The area you speak of can be a misnomer as oil could travel along something and just drip there. If it were the driver's side I would be more concerned unless you cracked your oil pan or the oil pan gasket has been disrupted. You really need to get this looked at if you're not going to do it yourself. It will only get worse and if you run out of oil while running, that will be the end of your engine.
