A few 850's have just of course come into the 2 PnP yards here. I could have pulled one and shipped it as I am going there tomorrow. Rock Auto have been good to me over the few occasions I have used them. Mostly for Toyota parts where they supply some OEM parts like Denso branded parts.

Neil.
Ha, yes it is Chapman's. Good to hear the parts you've received have worked well. My experience has been slight disbelief when I inquire on a price for a part, it's usually double what I would expect which turns me away! That's a very kind offer, there are actually a few junkyard parts that I'm looking for which maybe you could help me out with. I'll send you a PM

I think RockAuto is a bit under the radar for Volvo parts... I'm realizing FCP doesn't always have to be the answer. RockAuto had Sachs front struts for $35CAD each (yes, EACH!!!) about 6 months ago and I keep kicking myself for not jumping on that to replace the Monroes that I have up front (which I also got on sale for about $33/ea :D )

A small report on the pump replacement, which went quite smoothly. I'd give it a 3/10 on the difficulty scale, mostly because there's a couple annoying bolts and special tools required. I used a 3 jaw puller to remove the power steering pulley, and the reinstalling tool from this rental tool - https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/oem- ... p.html#srp to put the pulley on the new pump.

First impressions on the AC Delco pump - it's clearly an OEM Volvo part which has been plastidipped black, quite poorly as you can see how it started peeling when I removed the sticker to check the part number cast on the pump. No primer or anything, just black plastidip type paint straight onto the dirty part. No biggie, I peeled it off and it looks just like my original pump. There were a couple quality issues that I noticed, which was the lack of an o-ring for the reservoir attachment point, requiring re-using my original pump's o-ring. And a generally dirty-appearing fitting for the reservoir - you can see how my original pump is nice and clean and brassy, the reman pump has particles in the ATF still. I cleaned it out and while it's probably just fine, if I were someone who didn't give the pump a once-over, it could cause issues, especially installing the reservoir without the o-ring.

Final cost: $121 for the pump shipped from RockAuto - I can get $33 back for returning the core, but I pay shipping. And $7.50 for a quart of ATF.

About 2 hours of labour working on the car, and about an hour and a half with the pump out of the car once I had the right tools to remove the pulley

I've only driven about a dozen km so far, and the steering feels fantastic, buttery smooth once again. At this point I'm happy with the purchase! I'm going on a 1600km road trip this weekend, so I'll report back next week...

I'm kind of gobsmacked that the pulley could withstand being pulled that way without bending. The metal connecting the hub to the rim looks pretty thin, I guess it must be really hard. I never would have thought to pull it that way. I'm glad it worked for you!

That puller tool is designed for things like this.
There are few sizes of the same tool.
Pulley can't be bent because the tool grabs it in 3 points and it push the center while pulls the pulley in 3 points.

Misha, you are correct that as long as the axis of the puller screw is aligned with the axis of the pump shaft the 3 jaws will pull straight and evenly. If the puller goes crooked and the pulley is really stuck on the shaft there could be damage.

Now that sventastic has shown that it works I'll be trying it soon!

I was slightly concerned about it as well, but it doesn't appear to have bent the pulley whatsoever. I started off with a 2 jaw puller but it was awkward to finagle it into the 2 holes on the pulley, and I couldn't get enough force on it. The 2 jaw started to bite in and bend the pulley very slightly

Haha, yep that dip is pretty amazing stuff!

I'm quite happy with it so far, just did a 1700km road trip and the steering is as good as new.
