Well I cleaned the PTC and I'm still getting a high five on the glove test. :?
So what would be the recommend next step ? Compression test ? Kind of hard to believe that the proverbial little old lady car with only 130k would have bad rings but I guess anything is possible.

I did come across a pic of a built 850 that was using the oil filler cap from a B20 ( vented ) and small trap. Seemed like a good solution.
Has anyone else tried that ?

There is a lot of discussion here or on Brick Board of changing flame trap (PCV) on 240 Volvo. How some have done this and discussion of why and why not to do this.

How is oil consumption between changes or at 1.000 km/miles?
Usually rings doesn't go bad if engine is maintained well, but valve stem seals DO go bad at about that mileage.

What is condition of the turbo?

Check the port into the block that so commonly clogs. You can blow into the hose connected to the oil trap and listen for bubbles in the oil pan if you plug the other outlets, I've done that.

My engine still smokes with this mod. I'm going to try the larger heater hose next. Anyone know if using the heater hose causes it to kink when making 90 degree turna?
Yes, kinks can be a real problem with using heater hose. Not always but also not predictable. I'd recommend go with a pre-formed hose that has a 90 degree bend (searchable here at MVS) or search for posts by MVS member tryingbe and see how he did it, his setup is/was much better.

Thanks for the responses and help. Oil consumption seems to be about 1qt per 3k. No smoking - no issues. Turbo works great. But I think I'll do a compression test anyway. In the mean time I fitted a 1ft. piece of hose over the dipstick tube with an old fashion one way pcv check valve on the end to at least let some of the pressure off. No signs of external leaks ....yet.

Block ports are clean

Oreillys sells an EDPM heater hose that has a 90 degree formed with varying lengths. I still have to route it behind the throttle body. Has anyone seen problems with that section? I wish there was a wire reinforced 5/8 ID hose.

Wire reinforced hose is available as hydraulic hose.

OK I see, good job on the block ports.

Using an oil-rated (hydraulic) hose not heater hose, using coils, using a 90 degree brass fitting:

A quart of oil every 3k sounds excessive, my V70 is the biggest oil eater in my fleet and uses a quart per 6k-8k (i.e. per oil change - I often just change it when the level starts to get low on the dipstick).
