Check Engine Light With Not Working Temperature Gauge

Post by Oka »

Hello folks, hope you all are managing the mask era good enough!

Out of the blue, my check engine light came on, with no message in the message window. Looking around on the gauges, I realized the temperature gauge is not working; the pin is way down to the left. What might this be?

Thanks.

Could be as simple as a failed engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT)

That would probably also generate an engine error code and your light

The temperature sensor fail is what I was suspecting also. The other thing would be the thermostat, but this I think, if it fails, would give a wrong temperature on the gauge.

By the way, this morning, I drove it from one spot to another, just about 30 feet drive and the auxiliary fan came on.

Thanks for your reply.

i wouldnt worry about the fan working, there is no way the car can overheat after 30 feet, i know AK can get hot.I would check the easiest thing first is the sensor on the engine housing then you may need to take the DIM apart.

How can I check the Engine Temperature Sensor, except to replace it?
I had replaced the "Water Temperature Sender" back in September 2019.

Thanks.

Just found how to test the sensor. Will do the tests and report.
