I can't totally rule out an issue with the ECU given other problems I've dealt with (flickering CEL that I've pretty much traced to an internal ECU problem) but there are 3 things I'm thinking at this point. TCV (unlikely since it's new, but anything's possible), ECU, or a clogged up cat.

The CBV is in good shape and not very old, so that's unlikely to be the problem. The IC hoses are in pretty sad shape, so that's a possibility. It could explain the inconsistent boost... sometimes it'll boost to 15 PSI with little issue, other times it takes its time to get there. I feel if it was in fact a clogged cat, it would be more consistent. It's slow to boost either way, so anything's possible.


In other news, this appeared today. 400 hp M66 S60R! My buddy just bought it and dropped it off for some work. He drove it 4 hours up here from Georgia (where he bought it) with a totally missing control arm bushing. It was all over the road, but he made it safely!

He had no idea, he was told it was the passenger CV axle by the previous owner. I drove it around the neighborhood and decided there's no way in hell that's the only problem. Jacked it up, and sure enough... no bushing! I wouldn't have let him drive it if I had known this was the problem. It seriously jerks all over the road.

That bushing looks less like it was worn away and more like it's a 4,000 year old Egyptian mummy, where soft tissue has disintegrated.

Had fun with a seized but not seized parking brake on the project car. It was stuck on so the rotor did not want to come off (pushed outwards onto the rotor so you could not pull it straight off). Had to pry in some impact bits to give me enough space to gently leverage the parking brake back inside. Turned out that letting a car sit results in rust buildup inside the rotor. This was enough to rub onto the parking brake pads and lock the wheels fully, a good cleaning fixed that. Now to find a flare wrench to replace the front callipers.

Allegedly the PO had dyno'd the car and it made 400 AWHP. Allegedly... lol. I believe it though, it's pretty quick!

The bushing must have been degrading for a long time, I don't know how the guy let it get that bad. The interesting part is that the remnants you can see there are from a poly bushing... weird. The other arm has a standard rubber bushing.

I could see it now... 100 hp in a can: new from CRC!
